HOWTO - Replacing your aerial mount :)

Seeing as I recently had my aerial snapped by chav's , I had to perform the task of replacing the Aerial mount. I though it only fair I do a HOWTO, seeing as it save a little bit of grief for somebody.

First, I sourced a replacement unit from "CAR-MASTS-UK" on ebay - about £12 for the entire assembly

*REMOVAL*
The aerial mount has a top piece with flat edges. this will unscrew (lefty-loosey ) using a pair of pliers and come off, leaving you with 3 pieces

1. unscrewed top piece
2. Black plastic mount (visible on car)
3. Aerial internals

Below is a pic of the old component removed

To remove the interals, you will need to disconnect the coaxial cable, shown here (dont forget to reconnect when done! )

*REPLACEMENT*
Disassemble the new piece in the same way, and clean off any muck / grease around the bodywork. Take the replace ment mount (middle piece) and line up the notches before pressing it in firmly. It looked a little out of alignment to me, but it isnt.

The easiest way I found to re-insert the aerial mount is to hold the bodywork with your right-hand, having the mount between your 3rd / 4th fingers (I've removed the mount to make the pic clearer). Once roughly lined up, manually screw on the top piece (hand-tight is fine).

Once done, reconnect the cable and you are finshed with the replacememt. And all that remains is to fit an Anti-Chav Richmeond aerial supplied by a sympathetic wife!

I wonder if anyone makes a stainless steel/chrome base mount for the aerial?

I've not found one yet!

Excellent guide SP!

Quite clever to have an anti-theft one - do you mind me asking how it works?

Thanks for the How-To - always wondered how it came apart!

Could have done with this a year ago when I dealt with all the rust around the aerial; took me a while to figure it out!

All you've got to do now is find the 'macro' focus on your camera
