Exclamation rover streetwise problems

hi people,
for the last few years my rover streetwise has been absolutley brilliant. however the last few weeks its been boggling down when i try to accelerate and now will not rev past 4000ish rmp even when in neutral. i know its service is slightly over due and i will be having one on saturday. but surley needing a service would not cause this problem. does anyone have any ideas or have they heard of this before because i have had a few rovers now and have never seen or heard of this.
thanks any info / ideas much appreciated
Luke
