Found a MG belt for less than £20, but I,m sure I,ve read that belts have a shelf life.If so would I be better off fitting a belt from a motor factors?

Yes get a belt kit from a motor factors from a well known brand such as Gates.

Motor factors it is then.I,ve also found a MG waterpump for £25,so a combination of the two should see me for another 40k.
