Hi,
Has anyone yet tried the re-profiled exhaust cam that Piper do for the VVC ?

Got the nod from one of the moderators about it, spoke to Matt at Piper Cams 01233500200 he confirmed that they will re-profile the VVC exhaust cam (customers own) and should expect to see about 8 to 10 HP increase. Told me that they have done a quite a few for customers abroad, who were very pleased. Costs around £100 for the regrind.

interested in this too, 8 hp for a £100 is quite good imo.

usually takes piper under a week to grind a few cams for me, so if you take your motor apart at the weekend, send off the cam on monday, they 'should' be able to get it to you for friday. (does depend on how busy they are)

might be useful to give them some notice before you send the cam so they know how much work they have on.

So if its the exhaust cam thats being re-grinded, this won;t affect the ammount of wear on the engine, Why don't they have more aggrssive exhaust cams on new cars?

More aggressive cams shift the power futher up the rev range meaning you have to trash the car more, this doesn't really do much for your mpg though.

so, could they give me an aggressive profile for my metro, i only need a powerband of 4000-7200. ie... more peak bhp but a narrower band?

I thought the inlet cam would shift the power band, thought the exhaust cam would let exhaust gasses out for a longer duration and I duno how that would shift the band

they can re-grind most cams but not from std to race spec. you can only remove so much material from the cam before it becomes useless.

you can get a second hand cam(s) reground. they will fit and work fine. but will cost you a little more (until you sell your old cams for someone else to do the same)

285 mechanical K series cam from piper has a stated power band from 2800-7800. probably the closest. ive heard its a good cam spec, either that or grind #740.
