Rover streetwise BCU Plektron Alarm problem

Hello every one newbie here.

Right where do I start.

As you can see by my username I repair damaged salvage cars.

Last week I bought a category D 2004 streetwise with a little problem.

The problem is this, there is a siren coming from the Plektron BCU unit and the immobiliser is armed and the light on the dashboard is solid.

I do not have a key fob for the car and at some point in its life, its had a laserline alarm with fob attatched.

I'm assuming when this was fitted, the Eka code was used to turn of the Rover immobiliser and when the salvage yard removed the battery lead and I've obviously put it back on the Plektron Alarm system has armed.

I purchased an EKA code using my Chassis number from If I remember rightly a user from this site, however this has not disarmed the immobiliser not even when changing the values of the 2nd and fourth number by 1.

I have removed the Plektron Alarm unit from behind the Air-con in the passenger side bulk head to check for any water damage, which I have read is a common fault just to make sure that had not been the cause of the problem, there did appear to be water in one of the connections but the plastic case surrounding it and the circuit board appeared water and damage free.

So I guess what I'm asking is what will be the way to go forward from here, I've never encountered this problem before with a Rover so would I be correct in getting a key fob and having that coded to the car ?

I'm lucky enough to live only 4 miles or so from David Stock Mobiletuning of www.alarmremotes.co.uk but he's away on holiday until the 17th of November so would appreciate any ideas on which way to turn from users who are familiar with this system.

Cheers Darryl.

I think the simplest approach to your problem is to have the SCU unlocked and a fob programmed to it.

Other than a complete SCU/ECU swap there is no other easy solution.

So basically I'd be better off waiting for David Stock returning from holiday on the 17th and take it from there ?

I have enquired about the Fobs, BCU, Transponder and ECU from an identical car breaking on ebay, I'm just awaiting the seller to get back to me with a price.

Cheers for your help its much appreciated.

Theres already a few sets removed from cars on ebay with buy it now of around £130. Luckily being the streetwise you'll only have the 2 button keyfob which tend to sell cheaper than the 3 button fobs. It doesn't need to be from a streetwise. Aslong as the ecu is from a car of the same engine size it'll work.

Later Streetwise had the 3 button fobs 2004 54 plate onwards.

Notice the absence of a boot lock

Update, I have taken the BCU to David Stock today, now that he has returned from his holidays.

He is going to unlock the BCU, regain the EKA code and program a new remote to the BCU.

I have to ring him Monday to find out how he has got on, so my fingers and eyes are crossed, hopefully it will be done and refitted Monday/Tuesday evening at the latest.

I'll update once again, once I've recieved the unit back and fitted it and let you all know what happened.

How did it go, any updates ?? I have similar problems with my BCU and he appears to be only 45 min drive away from me.

Spot on mate, worked first time as soon as I disarmed the immobiliser the car started first turn of the key, well worth my £120.00.

For any forum users having same problems its.
