hi
lift the center arm rest up and remove the cubby holder inside the tunnel you will see the hand brake cables adjust the center adjuster to set the hand brake height or adjust the 2 outer ones to adjust the 2 cables running to the calipers if your hand brake leaver in the lowe position (off) but the light some times comes on then adjust the center adjuster the leaver should only come up about 3 clicks hope this helps mark |

But don't do what I did and sit on your cigarette lighter while doing it!

This might help http://forums.mg-rover.org/showthread.php?t=297090
It is how to change a cable, but shows the adjuster at the end.

Hi
Not being mechanically minded, but how can you tell whether your cable needs adjusting, or replacing? My handbrake light comes on almost as soon as you pull the hanbrake handle up (almost a touch). And when the hanbrake is applied, it starts rolling backwards (if on an incline) until I really force the handbrake up to max clicks. Even then I make sure it's left in gear! |

this may be a seized rear caliper.
the handbrake light wouldn't go off in mine and it had trouble with hills. took it into the garage and a rear caliper had seized. i would get it looked at before you're needing pads and discs as well as calipers. |
