mgf classic ?

does anyone think the mgf will become a classic and increase in value?

Definately 'Yes'

It's already listed in the price guide at the back of Practical Classics magazine.

It's viewed as one of their 'Modern Classics'

Very little doubt about it.
If the likes of the Austin Allegro (I had a 1300 'Super' for which they should have been prosecuted under false advertising) and Maxi (passed my driving test in one somehow) can make it into the classic display areas then the MGF has no problem.
In time, good early ones - like mine? - will increase in value.
Adrian Flux were happy to insure mine on a classic policy.

I think the TF has a better chance.
It will be seen as the last true British MG I suppose.

I thought that until the Chinese got in on the act and slowed the gentle progression to Classic status by making them again for a couple of years!

I know they're not made anymore at Longbridge but do they still make and sell them in China?

They have made the last batch of TF's. IIRC the last ever TF made was on show at goodwood festival of speed

Yes deffo, not made anymore.....many dissapearing to scrapyard give it 5/10 years well into the classic market HOWEVER I think that they will become a bit of a 'niche' classic.....if that makes any sense at all!?!?

there were over half a million MGB`s built and over half of them are still arounmf 30 years later and they value of them is now 3time what the last Le versions sold for as new

As the F becomes older the price for a nice clean car will rise slowly

The opinions on here, as owners, are biased. If you like the car then yes it;s a classic, if not then it won't be. Don't expect them to ever appreciate in value greatly.

I was asking if they still make 'em in China. Does anyone know?

I know the last UK batch have been made in UK and the last one has been displayed at various shows.

They will become a classic, but they will be like MGB's , rough one 500 fully restored 10k

I think clean MK1's will go up first.

Agree with above I suspect like a rubber bumper MGB - ie not reaching the top levels - local garage has a B GT for 5995 - saw a similar one last week at a different dealer in Oxfordshire for 895...........

Anyone want to stock up on one of mine while still cheap ??! - lol

The big problem is that the MGF will have to compete against the MGB for classic status and all that goes with it, nice as the F and TF are, a B will always be more desirable - it will also have to be competing with the general financial position which may yet take several years to start recovering sadly - thanks bankers.

With respect, none of that matters.

We are deep into a recession right now of course, but does that mean that there are no classic cars? - of course not. The economy has no bearing on whether a car is viewed a classic or not, just its perceived worth.....

Nor does a car have to see of competition for it also to become a classic - just being either old or desirable does that.

The key word here being desirable, and that means lots of things to lots of different people (thankfully). My first ever car was a Mk1 Cavalier saloon (now theres an admission), so that makes that car desirable to me for old times sake, as I met my Wife when I had just bought that car.

Any car can be a classic, simply on the basis of that there is not many left on the roads either.

A Mk2 Jag will always be competing against the E type, and probably always be less desirable to the majority (maybe) but the Mk2 is still a classic car.

You dont have a classic car for its value - you have one because you love the shape, the history, the 'quirkness' or the memories that it brings back.....
