My Rover 420D Progress

Yesterday some of you may have seen I picked up a Rover 420D. My first L-series. I love it.

It's a 1999 V-reg in Silver with a low mileage of 78,600, an average of 6,000 a year!

Here's some pictures. She needs a good valet!

To do list:
  • Aeroflat wipers - done 17/06/2012
  • Alloys - done 20/06/2012
  • Armrest - done 19/06/2012
  • Brake pad and disc renewal - done 22/06/2012
  • Clear side repeaters
  • Front fog lights
  • Half leather seats
  • Leather steering wheel
  • Rear electric window conversion
  • Tailgate with spoiler
  • 45/ZS rear light clusters - done 18/06/2012
  • 45 dials
  • 45/ZS mirrors
Any suggestions please do say.

I take it this is an intercooled (103bhp) version?

If so, get a TU1 from the For Sale section on here, or eBay. I used to get 140bhp (with a decat) from my old 420iXLD with just a TU1, made a massive difference!

Also, foglights.

A couple of other things - you won't be able to fit 45 dials as they're electronic (well, more so than the 400 dials) and aren't compatible.

If you can find the quite rare black half leather/half fabric ('Recaro' style) seats then fit those, they're amazing. I had one in my old 416 - I couldn't fit the rest in my car to take home, so I had a single half leather seat for me.

Those are the seats I fancy. I quite like the idea of front fogs, that's on my list now.

As for the dials, I could of sworn it is possible to do, I have seen a Portuguese member fit them to his 400, and I have seen it done with 200's as well?

I could always be wrong, it does happen.

Fogs are a must, it helps the front end of a 400 a lot.

As for seats: http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Rover-400-...#ht_500wt_1413

That's the seat I had, was brilliant. It was like the only good thing about the car apart from the mint engine and gearbox.

It's 101k less than the 25! As you say that's nothing for a diesel.

Yep its a very nice car, got it for a good price. For a basic 400 Diesel it goes pretty well, certainly feels quicker then my 25 103, not 0-60, but in gear acceleration. It makes me want a 25 diesel even more.

You'll also get those on the iS models, like ours They're not bad on the comfort front, not as supportive as the half leather in the R8 214 SEi but still make a nice touch

That advert must be someone breaking a 414iS or similar, we've got that gash red carpet too

I've pinched the rear light clusters as they're clear, going to take the side repeaters too as they're also clear. Can't think of much more for the 420 though, other than the rear wiper motor as it doesn't work on the 420.

New light clusters on the rear.

Comparison of old ones with the 45 ones:

And sorted:

I also gave the car a quick polish inside to clear some of the dirt, dust and grease. Smells better, feels cleaner and looks much cleaner. Still need to hoover and wash the exterior.
