Important Announcement regarding MG-Rover.org

From now MG-Rover.org is part of the AutoGuide family of forums. I will still be very much part of the admin team on the forum, but as of today, I’m no longer the owner. Some of you no doubt will be interested why – it’s pretty simple really, they made me an offer that after a lot of soul searching and discussion with the family, I decided I couldn’t turn down. There’s no other reason and if the offer had not of been right, I wouldn’t have sold.

You’re probably wondering who they are, they’re a Canadian based company and they operate a number of automotive websites across many marques and have the experience and expertise that I know will safeguard the future of mg-rover.org for years to come.

So in effect, nothing will change, the admin & mod teams that you know will still be here, the only difference will be that we have new owners.

Cayne will be the guy from AutoGuide will may pop in from time to time, but really I expect their input to be minimal. We’re obviously doing something right to be still popular 7 years after the collapse of MG Rover and still one of the busiest automotive forums in the UK, they’re obviously not going to do anything that would jeopardise that.

If you have any questions (no I can’t say how much it was sold for before you ask), we’ll be glad to answer them below.

Lastly, thank you, the MG-Rover.org member for your support. Quite literally, this community is nothing without the members and we’ve always remembered that over the past 11 years and we will continue to do so. Thank you to the supporters and traders for your support and I hope you continue to support us in the future.

MG will eventually get their act together in the UK, new metal will appear and we intend to continue to be the #1 site for MG owners going forward. I have full confidence that MG will be a brand to be reckoned with in the medium term once they’ve built up a family of models and I can’t wait to see what the talented team of engineers and designers at Longbridge produce over the next 9 years, at the end of which the forums will be celebrating its 20th birthday.

Of course we’re still be here for Rover owners as well, but we have to acknowledge that really, Rover is a dormant brand now. Should Tata decide to resurrect It, then of course we’ll cover it as well.

My name is Cayne and I’m the Forum Manager and your go to guy from AutoGuide.com. I will be working alongside Steve and the staff as a team in order to try and keep the forum running as smoothly as it was before. I would like to try and make this transition seamless to the extent where it did not seem there was a transfer of ownership.

Autoguide.com runs about over 300 online automotive related communities offering enthusiasts content and information to help them get the most out of their vehicles. This small company is run by a good number of car enthusiasts and with expertise in graphic design, programming, server administration, and community support. They are based Toronto, Ontario and you can get a list of communities they run by visiting AutoGuide.com.

With the migration of MG-Rover.org onto our servers, this will help the site run faster and with less bugs. The staff at Autoguide.com work very hard to make the site run smoothly and take care of any issues that may arise as quickly as possible.

I look forward to being a part of this community and to help make this site run as well as it always have, and keep the site growing into a very prosperous community.

No, no effect whatsoever Zaidain. All existing paypal subscriptions will be cancelled with PayPal, but this won't affect your supporter status on here, that will continue until the renewal date, it just means that payment won't automatically be taken.

When renewal comes around, simply take out a new sub via the forum and it'll go to AutoGuide instead of me (well, Online Enthusiasts Ltd) - that's all.

As long as .org stays the same with the same ethics then I am happy. Any huge format changes and then I will have to reassess my being here.

As for the comments made to Steve I do hope they are all in jest. I understand what Steve has done and fully support him as he needs to do what is right for him and his family. I hope you stay Steve and I wish you all the best. Thank you for making this site what it has become!

I think I'm going to give up saying I'm not going anywhere.

I am not leaving, departing, saying goodbye, adios, Auf Wiedersehen, Abientot, Vakivelaanan, Ukatola, Zbohem, Zai hui or even Salaam.

I will still be here tomorrow, the day after, next week, next month, next year and probably next decade.

To be fair, we've tried decisions by group mentality before, it didn't work!

That said, other than the eventual migration to XenForo, there really isn't anything else planned. As I said in the announcement, mg-rover.org works well as it does at the moment (despite what some think) and they're not going to mess with what works.

If it ain't broke, don't fix it, certainly if anything was suggested that I didn't think was a good idea, I'll be the first to tell them!
