MY2004 radio connections
Does anyone know the connection pins for telephone mute and steering wheel controls for the new type (MY2004) MG-Rover head units? I guess they are in the block next to the CD changer conection.

OK, I’ve figured out that pin 2 of the power connector is the telephone mute.
Is there anyone out there who has access to the latest circuit diagrams to find out where to connect the steering wheel controls? I asked my local dealer and his response was “we only sell cars here mate”, well not to me he wont. |

I got it all hooked up and working!
Here is the full story just in case it helps someone else. 1) I never did like the Kenwood head unit fitted to my ZT as it looked terrible and sounded pretty bad as well. 2) So I purchased the latest IOVOX head and CD stacker of a guy selling brand new units on e-bay. A quick test showed the sound to be surprisingly far superior to the Kenwood, and it looks great. 3) To connect up the speakers and power is easy as both units use ISO connectors, but what about the steering controls and telephone mute I hear you say. Well it does not help that the IOVOX manual does not mention anything about connections, and the local MG dealer seemed clueless as well. So I took the centre console apart to see what connections exist. The Kenwood ISO connectors including the IR steering wheel remote are in fact a converter cable from what appears to be a BMW style radio connector and incredibly this BMW connector is a converter cable from another set of ISO connectors which are part of the main loom. With the loom ISOs is also a mini ISO (yellow/green/blue). Plugging these loom ISOs and the mini ISO into the back of the IOVOX unit got everything working including the steering wheel controls and the telephone mute cable is already there tied up to the loom waiting for the connection to be made. 4) The CD stacker cable is clearly the first thing they start with when building the car as it runs under the carpet to the boot rather than alongside the sill. After fighting with it for an hour I got the old one out and the new one in, this is not for the faint of heart as you have to take the whole car apart to do it! |

Well done Chris! You make what is obviously a big job sound very simple.
Your total tangle of connectors reminds me of my 75 where the main loom at the base of the console is a BMW connector, which then goes to either another BMW connector with a separate plug for the CD Changer or, for the Symphony unit changes to an ISO lead with 3 mini ISO's They don't make it simple do they ![]() Regards mike |
