Rover 45 alarm/immobiliser problem ?

After standing all week with a dead battery and the doors unlocked I replaced the battery this morning and went to start the car but to no avail .
The starter motor turns over but the engine does not start.
The doors cannot be locked or unlocked with either of the 2 remotes.
Have tried the key thing in the door with the codes supplied by the Rover dealer several times but to no avail
The red led light for the alarm does not come on.
Any ideas anyone ?

Unlock the car, disconnect the battery.

Wait 2 mins and recoonect the battery, try the remotes, you might have to rapidly press the buttons to re-synch the remote to the alarm ECU.
