16 -------- 9
8 -------- 1

There are 2 rows of 8 pins . The bottom row is 1 to 8 from right to left . The Rave cd shows it under electrical connectors , #C0040 , although the photo is on a LHD auto !

I swear the socket had a tiny pin number at one end...

Reset Service Interval

Owner of a 75 CDT Auto showing -1400. Worked fine after 5 or 6 goes. Tried it then on a friends 75 CDT manual with -2100 serval times . As yet no joy. It does seem as if timing is everthing. It would help if I knew which pin first and for how long. I used the pin 4 first then pin 8 and it worked eventually but as I say has yet to work on my friends.

Smile It worked for me !

Pleased to say shorting pin 4 and 8 after switching ignition to second position worked fine for me too. Rover 75 1.8 - Mar03 - 03 reg (pre-reg and stored with 1 mile on the clock for a year - I bought from Virgin Cars). I had about 400 miles to go to the service due. This was the first service and the 'oil service' that had been counting to the 'Oil Service' due had now changed to Inspection Service due. Thanks for the great website.

It won't make the slightest bit of difference which pin you connect first as you're just shorting the two pins together.

I've found a paper clip works best, fits snugly

OK Rich but enough of that, what do you do about resetting the service indicator?

You need a magnifying glass to see the numbering + body contortions to see the socket at a reasonable angle! Althenatively, look at a previous posting set on this subject where a diagram of the socket was shown. As I mentioned in my original posting, pin 4 is only an earth connection - so you can short pin 8 with a length of wire either to pin 4 or any bare metal.

Silly question.

Couldn't you put your pin in hole 4, and then runa wire to the body?? Then you wouldn't ahve to faff with getting the pin in th'other hole

You have to short the Instrument Pack pin to GND for differing times depending on what type of service you are resetting. And yes, it works on all models.

Type of Service Time for Short to GND
Oil Service 1 – 4 sec
Insp. 8 – 25 sec
Oil Service and Inspection 8 – 25 sec for Oil & Insp.
Time interval 8 – 25 sec
Oil Service and Time interval 1 – 4 sec for Oil Service then 8 – 25 sec for Time
Insp. and Time interval 8 – 25 sec for Insp. then 8 – 25 sec for Time
Oil service, Insp. and Time interval 8 – 25 sec Oil & Insp. then 8 – 25 sec for Time

Service Reset MG ZT+160

Just did it, pin 4 (fourth from right at bottom) and pin 8 (bottom left), viewed with head right way up with chin on sill! Worked for me 12/2001 MG ZT 160+ V6.

All done, sweet as....

Been bugging me for ages, bought the car from a non-rover dealer who serviced it and never reset it. Thought I was going to have topay for another service just to get rid of light.

FYI: Reset at -5200 miles, and clock lit on display, 2001 (51 plate) MG ZT190+

...all fine once I'd found pin 8 (***)

Except....

My clock's stopped! Has it got it's own fuse that I could've popped? I did at first short out pins 4&7. Everything else works fine though!

It may be a coincidence that your clock has stopped, however if you check your manual you'll be able to identify the fuse for the clock and it's a simple job to replace.

Adendum:
After a service is completed, the instrument pack service interval display has to be reset so that the countdown to the next service interval can begin. If the display is not reset and the distance indicator reaches zero, a negative distance will be shown on the display, inferring an overdue service. Resetting the service interval display, resets the distance countdown back at 15,000 miles (24,150 km).The service interval can only be reset within range of the service interval (e.g. 1000 miles).
Ideally, the service interval should be reset using 'Testbook' connected to the diagnostics socket. In the absence of 'Testbook', the service interval display can also be rest by shorting the DS-2 diagnostics bus to ground for a defined period, while the ignition switch is in position 'II'.

l If an oil service has been conducted, then the 'Oil service reset' must be used, so that an 'inspection service' is indicated for the next service interval.

l If an inspection service has been conducted, the 'Inspection reset' command must be used so that the next service indicator is for an oil service.

l If an 'oil service' and an 'inspection reset' is required, then these must be reset using the 'inspection reset' command.

l If either oil or inspection is required, and a 'time service' is also required, then the oil / inspection reset should be done first, followed by the time reset.

l The 'Time service' is reset by using the time service reset command.

The times required for shorting the DS-2 pin to ground to reset different types of service interval indicators are listed in the following table:

NOTE: The service interval can only be reset to within the range of the service interval (e.g. 1000 miles /1600 km).
NOTE: It will only increment every 40 miles (50 km)

foxyloxy is up and running. Hey we all have to start somewhere.
Can someone clarify the "timings" table

IF Insp. is 8 - 25 sec.

then how can it also be

Oil Service and Inspection 8 - 25 sec?

Confused.

Cheers
Steve
