200 Vi K+N induction kit

I fitted my old induction kit off of my metro gti on to my 200 vi yesterday. Bolted it directly onto the throttle body like your surposed to with a cold feed.

It transformed the performance of the car, it went from being fast and responsive to being completely flat. Car had no go in it till the revs went up. The heatsoak must of been terrible under there. I reckon at least inlet temps of 50-60C under the bonnet.

Anyway i took it off today and put the standard airbox back on with its paper filter and the car felt great. Pulled throughout the rev range and had alot more urgency when you put your foot down.

Because of this i will stick with the standard air box but iam going to opt for a k+n panel filter as least i will have the cold air feed from the airbox as well as a better free flowing filter. This combined with a 52mm should give good gains. I can do without the induction noise which to be honest sounded aweful with the standard exhaust system bolted on.

The problem is the location, bolted straight on to the throttlebody it just gets to hot.

heat is the enemy of horsepower.

on the MG ZR the filter is attached with a hose with 90' bend on it bringing it much futher forward.

the general consensus with the Vi is dont bother with an open cone.

just put a quality aftermarket panel filter in your airbox (K&N,ITG)

or fit a sealed airbox system (Viper, ITG Magnox, K&N cone in an 800 airbox)

Rule is keep it cool and shove as much cold air at it as you can.
