HotShot installation
As you may recall I bought a Webasto HotShot that heats the washer fluid.
After an abortive attempt to fit it last Wednesday today’s efforts were more successful, some photos and instructions will follow. All-in-all the kit was a pleasure to install everything was in the box and a lot of bit were supplied just-in-case, the instruction were a little optimistic stating it should only need an hour to fit make that more like three. So does it work? Yes, so far so good but we shall see on the first frosty morning, my main concern is the current demands on the alternator, when the unit is switched on when the engine is idling the sound of the engine does change as if it is struggling slightly we shall see.

it'll prove a useful bit of kit if left ungaraged Chris, should be ok on your battery as long as you don't use your HT's heated window at same time and you give the car a good run!

Removing the cover.
In order to remove the black cover there are (or should be) four plastic nuts, two at the bottom and two on the right hand side (when looking from the front) and a plastic screw/rivet into the heater box. The screw came out with out a problem on Wednesday would the little bugger come out today, I ended up drilling it out.

Now the cover is off, it’s a bit of a shock as the subframe is visible. The only place for the unit to fit is next to the washer bottle, makes sense but it means that it is effectively outside of the car. It was at this point I contacted Webasto to see if this would be OK it they seemed to think it would be. In the end I didn’t make a shield to protect the unit from water as there was a good chance that it would rub on one of the coolant pipes and given the option I know what I would sooner fail.
![]() Using nylock nuts the unit was bolted at the top but due to access problems it was stuck at the bottom with very strong double-sided tape. The two controls wires where then fed through one of the grommets under the dashboard then connected to the switch that was in tern stuck to the dashboard. ![]() Finally the neutral was connected to an earth point and the live connected via a very big fuse to the live battery terminal.

Thaks for the pics Chris. Roll on winter so we can see if it works (coldest for 10 yrs apparently)
Just out of interest, where exactly are the grommets under the dashboard for feeding cables through.

First frost of the season and so the first real test for the HotShot. Did it work? Oh yes its fantastic but there is one problem in that the jets don’t give a even spray across the windscreen meaning areas of frost are not cleared, so a bit of tweaking is required.
