  1. Gaby the cabby: a 1994 Rover 214i cabriolet revival

    MG ZR / Rover 25, 200 & Streetwise
Gaby is at the mechanic's at the moment till nearly the end of the week: swapping of the gearbox change of seal swapping of the clutch (last change: 2012) swapping of the passenger's door locking motor inspection of the cabin light: switching on from the passenger's door but not from the...
  2. Boot light not working in the 214 cabby

    MG ZR / Rover 25, 200 & Streetwise
Thank you. I tested the voltage between the 2 wires. Hence if I've well understood I assume that the problem may (or should?) be in the boot lid latch. I'll have a close look. If unsuccessful I'll leave it to my good mechanic...
  3. Boot light not working in the 214 cabby

    MG ZR / Rover 25, 200 & Streetwise
Sorry dear fellow companion: my previous answer may have been a bit stiff. I'd involuntarily taken the word 'passenger' at its face value. For me the word 'cabin' or 'interior' is more convenient because 'passenger' may also be a reference to the side, which I find confusing. I'm neither an...
  4. Gaby the cabby: a 1994 Rover 214i cabriolet revival

    MG ZR / Rover 25, 200 & Streetwise
Well I've stolen a part of my mechanic's job: unlike the 75, I decided to take the plunge and install myself my special E85 (ethanol) starter. The device was ready to go but I'd to screw the button on a good spot on the left of the wheel, pass through the bulkhead after the console (the saving...
  5. Boot light not working in the 214 cabby

    MG ZR / Rover 25, 200 & Streetwise
As the title says, nearly nothing is coming to the bulb (in good order): 0.5 V only! I don't think that may be a fuse... BTW which fuse is ruling the boot lamp? Is it F17? If so, it's the same ruling radio & cigar lighter which are working. Where may lie the culprit? Where is...
  6. Any easy grommet between interior & engine?

    MG ZR / Rover 25, 200 & Streetwise
As the title says I'm looking for an easy way to pass a wire between the fuse box or around and the engine bay. The aim is to add a manual starter to ease the firing up on chilly mornings because my cabby is mainly fuelled with ethanol (E85) cheap & easy to find in France. That push button is...
  7. Gaby the cabby: a 1994 Rover 214i cabriolet revival

    MG ZR / Rover 25, 200 & Streetwise
While beginning improving the look of the body (primer then touches of BRG on the front left wing), I upgraded (at least I think so... ;) even some are allowed to disagree 🤗) inside & outside. I let you guessing what has changed (2 mods - help yourself with previous pictures - easy!):
  8. HELP! No power at all!

    MG ZR / Rover 25, 200 & Streetwise
And the culprit was: the 3 1/2 years old battery! Congratulations @Roverlike ! @ROVER-25X nearly as soon as I switched on the engine on the morning (10 a.m, still a bit chilly), 3 or 4 seconds and it started at the first time, which is a kind of performance because of the E85 mandatory...
  9. Rover 214 & 216 gearbox compatibility?

    MG ZR / Rover 25, 200 & Streetwise
Well I'm sure you're right. Thank you very much. (y) But my mechanic did only ask me to find out the crankshaft seal hence I've ordered a Payen NB829 which is the one he wants as indicated for a Rover 200 mk2 14K4F on the French site I've ordered it from. Is it the same as the one you tell me...
  10. The last fleet admiral

    MG ZT / Rover 75
I think you're 100% right. But it's a bit low, you know? ;):D It's cold & chilly and I don't know exactly in which position every sensor should be. I'll leave that to my good mechanic the next time he's going to intervene. A you may guess it's becoming to cost me a wodge of quids... and I'm fed...
  11. The last fleet admiral

    MG ZT / Rover 75
Once more that stubborn electrical system is harassing me on the small control screen! As sometimes in the past it's pretending that a brake pad is failing, the older front pair being hardly 18 months old! Today that bl..dy warning suddenly appeared when there was a bump on the road, my front...
  12. Rover 214 & 216 gearbox compatibility?

    MG ZR / Rover 25, 200 & Streetwise
Yes I received it very quickly, with a new clutch and I'm now waiting for a new gearbox gasket I'd forgotten to order. But there's no harm in that delay because my good mechanic being busy will only be able to take the cabby on Tuesday the 19th. He'll just have to swap the speedo sensor, because...
  13. HELP! No power at all!

    MG ZR / Rover 25, 200 & Streetwise
I've just swapped the batteries on the morning. Until yesterday the old one still accepted to work provided it will be charged beforehand with my Noco Genius charger. But a slight hesitation nearly on every first start up of the day with something of a high pitched sound, but working at the...
  14. Gaby the cabby: a 1994 Rover 214i cabriolet revival

    MG ZR / Rover 25, 200 & Streetwise
Thank you. :) However some minor scratches are remaining. I'll have a go with my G4 Farecla scratch remover. Probably they'll not disappear but I hope they'll fade enough to become barely noticeable. Just a few smallish touches of colour on the front left wing and that'll do (for me at least!). ;)

    MG ZR / Rover 25, 200 & Streetwise
About the passenger fusebox I don't know TBH: I haven't the time and leisure to go out in that chilly and damp weather. I've caught a cold a few days ago and I feel rather sick with the sinusitis & bronchitis that uses to follow. I'm waiting that my good antibody is gaining the upper hand...
  16. Gaby the cabby: a 1994 Rover 214i cabriolet revival

    MG ZR / Rover 25, 200 & Streetwise
Despite a miserable weather, I've tried to make some slight progress. First I've swapped the left windscreen sprinkler which was blocked with one of those sent by the mate who is stripping his 418. Then I unblocked it with white vinegar and a very thin needle. Then I swapped the right front wing...
  17. HELP! No power at all!

    MG ZR / Rover 25, 200 & Streetwise
So I ended ordering a new battery as expected: VARTA C6 Silver Dynamic 52Ah / 520A for 65€ (£56)on Amazon.fr. On Ebay.fr the same was 10€ more (£8.60) and my local retailer 'gave' them for 20€ more (£17.20)!
  18. HELP! No power at all!

    MG ZR / Rover 25, 200 & Streetwise
Obviously in 45 years of driving, I'd known batteries dying but weakening beforehand, for example with the very well known klick-klick just at the start up with a little remaining power elsewhere, but never ever I'd experienced such a weird, sudden & total loss as happened today. Maybe I'm not...
  19. HELP! No power at all!

    MG ZR / Rover 25, 200 & Streetwise
You may be right despite the fact I assumed the AGM batteries were long lasting ones, say 5 years or thereabouts. Nevertheless mine is 3 years and 5 1/2 months old (with 33k km) and had got a 2 years guarantee. Here are the last developments. Nothing looks corroded or rotten, broken or...
  20. HELP! No power at all!

    MG ZR / Rover 25, 200 & Streetwise
I'm totally puzzled... Could the AGM battery (stronger than needed - 60Ah - 640A) be wrong after 3 years only??
