  1. MGTF160 Wind deflector mesh

    MGF and MGTF
Ikea has been mentioned before but I can't confirm its availability.
  2. To keep or not to keep

    MGF and MGTF
MJS Auto & Marine are near you (actually in Littlehampton) and have both a garage and mobile service and is a specialist in MGRover cars. He could pick it up and then advise what needs finishing. http://www.mjsautoandmarine.co.uk/
  3. Which is the correct antifreeze ?

    MGF and MGTF
I think the main issue here is the solder but there are many elements added to both solder and to coolants and I'm not a chemist! I stated steel because the MGF radiator is steel cored and I've seen very rusty examples, whereas the TF radiator and most if not all replacements are alloy cored...
  4. 2003 MGTF Front upper suspension arm

    MGF and MGTF
I think you need to drop the subframe to gain clearance.
  5. Which is the correct antifreeze ?

    MGF and MGTF
My understanding is that you shouldn't use OAT type coolant in a car with steel/soldered parts...ie the radiator. The reason being that OAT additives are not very friendly to solder. Therefore my 2004 MGTF, with its plastic/alloy radiator, had OAT and my 1995 MG RV8 with its older...
  6. TF won't fire up.

    MGF and MGTF
There's a cover panel behind the seats to get to the tank. The seats will have to come out first.
  7. Cam belt and oil filter pipes

    MGF and MGTF
I presume the oil pipes mentioned are those running to and from the oil cooler on a 160 because the oil filter has no operational hoses associated with it. They are rubber hoses protected by steel braiding. The braiding is not functional in an oil flow sense, just external protection. I...
  8. MG TF - 53 plate - no resistance on clutch pedal

    MGF and MGTF
Sounds like 3 separate issues to me: 1 Clutch fluid or master or slave cylinder failure 2 Gear-change cable sloppy or out of adjustment 3 Flat battery which may be caused by alternator fault On an old car with many miles it could be expensive when you add up that lot! (BTW RAC will say it's...
  9. Mg zs 180 fuel pump misery, won’t prime

    MG ZS / Rover 45 & 400
If you're getting power to the pump wiring then it sounds like the pump has given up. Drop tank time! :greeny:
  10. Head gasket/ liner height

    MGF and MGTF
Have a chat with Dave Allkins of 'MG Rover Mobile Mechanics'. He is an expert engine rebuilder so should be able to give you the best advice. He has a great reputation for K-series issues.
  11. VVC no VVC

    MG ZS / Rover 45 & 400
It's the inlet cam that is split!! Well actually it's in four parts!
  12. Does belt go slack when engine turned backward?

    MG ZS / Rover 45 & 400
OK, thanks. It was the auto-tensioner spring that I was thinking about and not the VVC coil spring. I thought the 'auto' bit was just for setting the correct tension and served no further purpose later in the same way that it does for the vvc spring. I only have a 160 vvc engine (on the bench)...
  13. Creaking noise when pulling away from standstill

    MGF and MGTF
Is the car an auto? I've noticed on several auto cars I have owned, Vauxhall, Honda, BMW, MGTF and even my current Mitsubishi Outlander PHEV, that the brakes groan as they are released after a braked stop. It must be the transmission being 'wound up' in Drive and still pressing to move the car...
  14. Mg zs 180 how rare?

    MG ZS / Rover 45 & 400
It all depends upon how the clerk at the selling dealer filled in the car description for DVLA registration. Sadly there was no consistency and hence the wide variety of ZS models listed. Same for other cars too. Mine is a 'ZS' with no mention of 180 or V6 engine other than the size, ie 2497cc
  15. Does belt go slack when engine turned backward?

    MG ZS / Rover 45 & 400
But isn't the tensioner locked before the engine is ready to be started? I thought the spring was only used to set the tension and then locked off! Maybe I've missed something...
  16. Mg tf 85th / le500 front shock absorbers

    MGF and MGTF
And add copperslip grease so it won't happen again!
  17. mg-rovermobile mechanics

    MGF and MGTF
I managed to get MJS to come to me near Exeter. But the journey from his home and heavy traffic did delay his arrival and upset the rest of his appointments later in the day. But at least he was prepared to make the trip. Did a good job too.:broon:
  18. Is this likely?

    MGF and MGTF
Don't forget the inlet manifold gasket. Coolant getting into the inlet tract can also give 'white smoke' in the exhaust. You can smell the coolant too.
  19. Sealant change head gasket

    MG ZS / Rover 45 & 400
Use a thin layer of the anaerobic sealant for all metal-to-metal joints that don't have a physical gasket. Both at the top and bottom of the engine - ie bottom oil rail and cam carrier joint. But NOT used on the head gasket - that is fitted bare. Be careful not to use too much and block any...
  20. New question .... TF suspension.

    MGF and MGTF
I had Bilsteins with standard (early) springs on my 2004 Steppy and the improvement in both ride and handling was superb. No more lost teeth!! I felt sure the car was more surefooted due to the tyres staying in contact with the road rather than jittering about! The last of the TFs, the 85th...
