This Rover 216 Cabriolet has been sitting in a garage for 10+ years. Has done 54,000 miles and lived a very clean life.
We have replaced the battery and checked the starter motor which both work.
When the ignition is turned on the lights do show but trying to start the car doesn’t happen. It doesn’t even try to turn over.
We’ve tried to deactivate the Immobiliser by doing what’s said in the car handbook by turning the key in the drivers door to input the 4 digit security code. Once code is entered the horn makes a quick beep.

Is there anything else we can try or have missed?

If you have two button black Lucas fob then in case car have immobiliser active you would have red light on the dash blinking and car would start for a sexond or two and then die.
If your car does not try to even turn over, then, if above is correct (you have Lucas fob and no red light on the dash), you do not have immobiliser active. You should then look imto battery contacts, battery voltage (battery might be on the end of life), car starter contact and inspect car starter if it is faulty or not.

I have the key fob and it does work to lock/unlock the car. When the key is removed from the ignition the red light in middle of the dashboard blinks a few times.
